How to play Dominoes

Try Dominoes at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

Focus on one rule

Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Step by step

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. A different version of the game may use a different rule. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
