How to play Russian Solitaire

Russian Solitaire gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Look at what changes after your first action. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Look at what changes after your first action.

Yukon-style deal, same-suit building, no stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Try a deliberate move

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Move any face-up card and its tail onto the next higher rank of the same suit. Kings fill empty columns.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

A useful example

A heart 6 fits a heart 7, not a spade 7. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Check the rule before repeating the action. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
